On Aug. 10, a massive explosion and fire leveled an apartment building in Silver Spring. Five people have died, at least eight people are still unaccounted for, and 34 others were injured. The Rev. Stacey Cole Wilson, the BWC’s director of Congregational Excellence, visited the site just hours after the flames were extinguished. She reports the needs of the residents, many of whom are immigrants and have low incomes, is great. Government officials report that general houseware, financial contributions and and other items being collected for the residents affected by the explosion are being collected at the Silver Spring YMCA, Silver Spring Civic Center, Long Branch Library and Casa de Maryland Welcome Center. While at the scene, Cole Wilson met fellow United Methodists who live at the apartment complex. Continued prayers are requested for all affected.
